Music

Our Bible-based music philosophy can be explained by looking at Colossians 3:16.

Colossians 3: 16

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

The Word of God must be the foundation of our music, not entertainment and not man’s thinking. The Word must permeate our Music. There is so much that is written in the Scriptures about Music. Our music music needs to be excellent, or rich as the passage says: something that reflects our Lord’s character.

In all wisdom means it must point to the one in whom all wisdom exists and consists. It all about God. It must teach Biblical truth. And it must confront us to Christ-likeness.

Our content needs to include the Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual songs. Psalms would be those Songs of direct quoting of Scripture. Hymns are those songs that deal with God’s majesty and greatness. Spiritual Songs reflect God’s goodness to us in our everyday lives. The Word “Spiritual" also means to not be spotted by the culture around us. We must decide when and where our songs then become worldly.

Our music must reflect God’s grace in our gratitude for what He has done for us. It must be directly from a heart that is in tune with Him. God Himself is our first and most important audience.

This is our musical goal here at Catawba.
